During the Civil War, Henry Oldham Robertson served in Company I of the 5th Texas Regiment (Hood’s Brigade) in the Confederate Army. After being wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg, Robertson was kept as a prisoner of war at the Hammond General Hospital in Point Lookout, Maryland. In April 1864, he was transferred to Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, before being released several months later. During the Civil War, Hood's Texas Brigade of the Confederate Army organized on October 22, 1861, in Richmond, Virginia, under the command of Brig. Gen. Louis T.
